PDP and the Local Government Elections
With violence and voters apathy, the Peoples Democratic Party is said to have "swept" the local government elections, which, as usual, was marred by irregularities. From the Vanguard news desk, Enugu State recorded two deaths while five people in Oyo were shot and about 130 violent youths apprehended. It is becoming obvious that after 8 years of experiment in what supposedly should have guided a nation in its Fourth Republic on a series of trials in its democratic dispensation, nothing much has changed with the kind of election results that was just released. How can a single party win most, if not all, of the votes in every constituency the election was conducted?
Winning 30 local government slots in Osun State, 230 slots of 20 local government in Ogun state, 15 of 16 slots in Enugu State where two people died due to election violence and all the contested spots in Ondo State, PDP must be up to something, which means lessons are not learnt from the past 8 years of election fraud. It is a mockery of the nation's neo-democratic fabric and until electoral reforms are effected, the situations will remain the same.
